Normalizing discomfort is the first step to true growth.

Recently, I’ve spoken with a number of people who have taken on roles that push them beyond their known skills. It feels awkward. It feels hard. Every day is a learning curve.

Imagine waking up and feeling like you’re not enough. It’s normal in these stretch roles.

Here’s the thing: it’s okay to not know everything.

You have to admit it. Embrace what you don’t know. It’s okay to say, “I need help.”

Looking for a way forward? Start here:

  • Openly ask questions: It’s not about looking smart. It’s about gathering info.
  • Find mentors and allies: Others have walked the path. Lean on them.
  • Celebrate small wins: Progress is progress, no matter the size.
  • Reflect on mistakes: They’re the best teachers.

When you’re uncomfortable, you’re growing. This is where we build resilience, strength, and capability.

Eventually, you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come. That pile of discomfort becomes a badge of honor. You didn’t just survive; you thrived.

Let’s normalize discomfort in growth, and make it our new comfort zone.
